If you come with METV visa make sure you have 1 year left on passport. 6 months won't work as local immigration office won't transfer your visa to new passport. Ruined my holiday. I've informed Thai embassy in Australia to update their website.

Mate, you were lucky with the public transport. I was in Bangkok last week and the BTS, MRT, and airport train were all packed every time I used it. They stopped me getting in one train at a BTS because it was so full and had to wait for the next train. On the other hand I would never pay 7000 baht for express immigration. I might have been lucky, but both times I used BKK I was out within minutes. I think they are getting that right now.
